Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja

Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja has become the highest wicket-taker for India in the One Day International (ODI) format of the Asia Cup.

On Tuesday, at the R. Premadasa Stadium in a Super Four stage match against Sri Lanka, Jadeja achieved this milestone. He contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 33 runs and taking two wickets in the match. The Indian left-arm spinner has now taken 24 wickets in 18 innings, surpassing Irfan Pathan’s 22 wickets in 12 innings.

Kuldeep Yadav, who has 19 wickets in nine innings, is also in the running. In total, among the bowlers with the most wickets in the Asia Cup, Jadeja holds the fifth position. Muttiah Muralitharan leads the chart with 30 wickets in 24 innings.

India’s bowling attack collectively put an end to Sri Lanka’s unbeaten streak in One Day Internationals with an emphatic win in the Super Four stage match. With just one game remaining in the Asia Cup 2023, India has secured its spot in the final as the host team, on Tuesday, chased down a modest target of 172 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

While spinners dominated the game from both ends, fast bowlers also played a significant role in India’s 41-run victory against the co-hosts.

Earlier in the match, the Sri Lankan duo of Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka helped Sri Lanka recover from a shaky start, putting together 213 runs for the Men in Blue.

Youngster Dhananjaya de Silva achieved a notable milestone by claiming his first 5-wicket haul, dismantling the strong Indian batting lineup by himself, dismissing top-order batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya
